Some schools in New Jersey have begun to announce reopening plans for the new school year.
The Cranford School District has announced a unique plan. Starting on Sept. 8, pre-K through fifth grade will go to school for half a day, Monday through Friday. The students won’t be served lunch to keep the students distant.
Middle schoolers will be in groups, with one group going to school Mondays, Wednesdays and alternating Fridays, with the other group going Tuesdays and Thursdays. They will also be on a half-day schedule.
High school students will be in groups going to school every third day. They also will be on a half-day schedule.
In all cases, teachers will live stream the classes so that parents can keep students home to learn virtually if they wish.
Over in Jersey City, parents can also keep their children home for virtual learning. But the district is set up for a rotating school schedule – five days in class and five days online.
Other school districts like the Elizabeth School District are still trying to determine the best way for students to return in September.
North Brunswick school officials are looking over parent surveys and will announce a plan on July 29.
The new schedules will put pressure on parents who will have to figure out how to make everything work with their lives and work schedules.
