A Hackensack police officer has been charged with theft, forgery and falsifying records following an investigation into allegedly falsified military documents, authorities said.

The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office announced the arrest of 31‑year‑old Forrod Bonsu, of Hackensack, on April 29, 2026. Authorities said the investigation began in February after officials received information about suspected forged military records submitted to the City of Hackensack.

According to prosecutors, a nearly three‑month investigation found that between July 28, 2021, and December 7, 2025, Bonsu allegedly provided falsified United States Marine Corps records to obtain paid military leave from the police department totaling $18,689.59.

Bonsu is charged with third‑degree theft by unlawful taking, fourth‑degree forgery and fourth‑degree falsifying records. He was released pending further court action.
