West Milford’s Greenwood Lake has become New Jersey’s latest lake to contain a harmful algae bloom this summer.

West Milford officials say that no one should come into contact with the water in the lake due to the algae. Swimming, wading and water sports are prohibited.

Fish caught in the lake should not be eaten.

Anyone who comes into contact with the water may experience skin irritation and gastrological issues.

Greenwood Lake is New Jersey’s second-largest lake. Other lakes containing the algae include Rosedale Lake, Spruce Run Reservoir and Lake Hopatcong.

Lake Hopatcong, New Jersey’s largest lake, has been closed to swimming since the end of June due to the algae.
