The state has just completed the first buyout of a Manville home at risk for flooding.
At least 108 homeowners are on the list for a buyout, many of their homes badly damaged during the last major flooding event, Hurricane Irene.
For every home accepted on the list, another is on the waiting list in case somone backs out.
Manville officials hope the buyouts will be completed by the end of the year.
"It's been devastating," says Manville Mayor Angelo Corradino. "But I can't say enough about the residents of this town and how resilient they are in rebounding from the floods."
These are not the first buyouts Manville has offered. More than 50 homes were purchased by the government after Tropical Storm Floyd in 1999.
