Governor Jon Corzine (D-NJ) reached a tentative deal with state employees Wednesday to save tax dollars on pension and health care costs. The deal would raise state employees? salaries 11 percent over the next four years. It would also force employees to contribute to their health care for the first time and hike contributions toward their pensions. In addition, the retirement age for new state employees would go from 55 to 60. The governor?s attorneys say the tentative agreement will save New Jersey almost $200 million in the next budget. The deal, which does not apply to teachers, must still be ratified by union members.
