Diners at a Menlo Park eatery got an unexpected treat Sunday ? a visit with Governor Jon Corzine (D-NJ).
Corzine dropped in at the Menlo Diner to get first-hand feedback on what voters think about his proposed budget. The plan calls for program cuts and tax increases, including the sales tax going up from 6 to 7 percent and the cigarette tax jumping 35 cents a pack. Newark resident William Clements? advice to the governor was not to spend what he didn?t have.
Corzine plans to have more impromptu meetings with voters. He is trying to decrease New Jersey?s $4.5-billion deficit.
