Gov. Mikie Sherrill has announced her pick to lead the State Police with the nomination of Jeanne Hengemuhle.

Hengemuhle is a 26‑year veteran who rises to lieutenant colonel and would become the first woman to lead the agency.

Lawmakers must confirm her nomination.
