New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy explained to News 12 on Tuesday night why he changed his mind on the topic of the state's bear hunt.
During the "Ask Governor Murphy" program, the state's top lawmaker argued that statistics and safety were at the front of his mind when he decided to allow the Fish & Game Council to vote on reviving the hunt.
"There are a lot of considerations to something like this, number one is keeping people alive - particularly our kids," the governor argued.
He says the statistics "don't lie, sadly, in terms of the amount of incidents of human interactions. It's up dramatically."
