A 16‑year‑old in Hackensack is in stable condition after he was stabbed multiple times Tuesday afternoon.
Family members said the violence began earlier in the day at Hackensack High School.Relatives spoke at a council meeting Tuesday night, urging police to act. “They chasing him for awhile. They went to my sister’s house with ski masks. We showed videos, we called the police. The police showed up there 30 minutes after it,” said the victim's aunt.
Police said the teen was stabbed around 3 p.m. at Central Avenue and Union Street by several suspects.
The family said he was stabbed seven times and needed a blood transfusion and surgery after being rushed to a hospital.
Hackensack Mayor Caseen Gaines told those at the meeting, “No one should be assaulted on the streets of Hackensack, period. Especially not a kid.”
Police said the suspects fled immediately after the stabbing and no arrests have been made.
The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit is involved in the investigation.
