Loved ones said their final goodbyes Friday to a slain police officer in Piscataway.Funeral services were held at the North Shelton AME Church for Officer Jerry Mahoney, a 20-year veteran of the police force. In addition to family and friends, police officers from across the state came to pay their respects.Piscataway's mayor remembered Mahoney for his loud boisterous laugh. He said people knew whenever the slain officer was in a room.Police say Mahoney was fatally shot by his son, 19-year-old John Mahoney, at their home on Dec. 27. Officials say the son then shot himself to make it look like a home invasion.Mahoney's son has pleaded not guilty to murder charges.
