Two dogs who were nearly starved to death by their original owners found new homes recently when two New Jersey families adopted them.
Raven and Robin, who were found starving inside a Tinton Falls home in November 2007, have both gained weight and gotten necessary exercise. Raven was adopted by Lesley and Eric Erisman, of Jackson, who run a pet grooming center. They say Raven was scheduled to be euthanized because she hadn't been adopted in nearly a year since arriving at the shelter.
"I love dogs, this is what I want. I want to help the ones that need the most help," Lesley Erisman says.
Robin was also adopted by Colleen Roses, of Jackson. When News 12 New Jersey arranged a reunion of the sister dogs, the owners realized how close they live and promised to bring the pups together more often.
According to the SPCA, William Johnson, of Asbury Park, was sentenced to six months in prison for letting two other dogs starve to death and for treating Raven and Robin cruelly. The SPCA says his accomplice, Jeanie Powell, of Neptune, was fined $750 and sentenced to 30 days of community service.
