Fires broke out at a home on Emmett Street and an abandoned building on Elizabeth Avenue Sunday. The two Newark buildings are located only blocks away from each other, and the fires broke out in the span of ten minutes, destroying the structures.A squatter living in the Elizabeth Avenue home received the only reported injuries as officials say he hurt his ankle jumping out a second-story window to avoid the flames. Investigators say he was the only person living in the vacant building at the time of the blazeWithin two hours, both fires were under control and Euzie Lyken was able to re-enter his charred residence on Emmett Street to gather his belongings. Lyken?s wife and son were visiting New York at the time of the fires.
