The first part of the Hudson River Tunnel Project will break ground next month in North Bergen.

Ground will be broken for a new Tonnelle Avenue overpass near what will be the tunnel's entrance.

“One hundred and thirteen years ago, a few very brave people built the current north river tunnels, and it was the right decision for the 20th century,” Gateway Development Commission CEO Kris Kolluri. “We are now about to embark on the next set of tunnels because it's the right decision for the 21st century.”

Kolluri added he hopes construction of the overpass will start this fall.
