Paterson police were called to John F. Kennedy High School Monday after fire alarms were pulled and fights broke out.
Faculty and students evacuated the building for two hours after the alarms went off. This is the second time in less than a week that students have pulled the fire alarms and disrupted classes. School officials say Monday?s incident was worse than last week because students actually set fire inside the schools.
While waiting outside for two hours Monday, several fights broke out. Students say the disruptions are in protest of the school?s new block scheduling. Many feel 80 minutes is too long for classes. School officials disagree, saying the disruptions have nothing to do with the block scheduling, which is working throughout the district.
School officials say they have several suspects. They plan to punish those suspects to the fullest extent.
