A fire that broke out at an apartment building in Bogota on Sunday afternoon and was thought to be under control rekindled at around 9:30 p.m. last night, according to police.
The fire at West View Towers, located at 15 Palisade Ave, had initially displaced dozens of residents, with many seeking shelter at a nearby recreation center.
The fire was first reported at around 2 p.m. on Sunday and quickly spread across the top floor of the building. Responders from the Bogota Fire Department, as well as surrounding towns such as Teaneck, Fort Lee, and Hackensack, were called to the scene to assist in putting out the flames.
According to Bogota Fire Department Battalion Chief Alex Breuss, all 60 residents from the 25 apartment units were safely evacuated from the building, with no reported injuries. However, the structure itself suffered significant damage, with part of the roof collapsing in the top right corner.
The Red Cross provided emergency financial assistance to 13 families, helping with temporary lodging, food, clothing, and other needs. Displaced residents were taken to the nearby recreation center at 162 W. Main St.
The cause of the fire is currently unknown and is under investigation.
