A family is homeless after a fire tore through their Perth Amboy home Saturday afternoon.

Fire officials say eight people lived inside the house on Fayette Street and Mechanic Road, but no one was injured.

Investigators blame the blaze on repairs being made to the second floor in the kitchen area. Firefighters call the damage extensive after they had to knock in much of the siding and walls.
