A fire damaged a home in Passaic County on Tuesday afternoon
The fire was reported just before 5 p.m. on Point View Parkway in Wayne Township. “The first arriving chief found heavy fire in the garage of the house and within a few minutes it was already spreading across the entire residence,” said Wayne Township Fire Commissioner David Citer. According to Citer, no one was inside the home at the time of the fire, and no injuries were reported. He said that a neighbor called the fire department when they saw flames coming out of the back of the house. “It’s just a terrible thing. Nobody would like to see that happen. It’s awful. Everything you have is wiped out and now you have to start rebuilding,” said Ken Miller, a nearby resident. About 100 firefighters arrived to put out the blaze. Several fire trucks lined Point View Parkway, blocking the roadway for residents attempting to get to their homes shortly after the workday ended. “The first time I tried to pull in they were like come back in half an hour. So, I came back, and you still can’t get in,” said Joe Cassara. He said that’s a small price to pay compared to the total loss the family is experiencing after losing their home Tuesday night. As crews investigate how the fire started, residents are thinking of how they can help. “We’re a pretty tight community. It’s a small development here. I’m sure there will be plenty of people reaching out to see what they can do for them,” said Ken Miller.
