A fire that broke out inside an abandoned building in Edison’s Raritan Center spread to the surrounding brush.
Officials say that the building was likely part of the former Raritan Arsenal that used to be in the area.
The cause of the fire was unclear, but fire officials say that it is not uncommon for fire to spontaneously start when weather conditions become this warm. Temperatures in Edison were in the mid-90s at the time.
Firefighters were provided with bottled water and an air-conditioned tent to make sure that they did not suffer any heat-related illness while battling the fire.
