A FedEx truck driver is facing charges for allegedly trying to run a school bus off the road in Lakewood earlier this month.
Sigmund Winiavski, 48, is facing aggravated assault charges. A video of the incident posted to Facebook prompted a police investigation.
In the video, a school bus driven by Morris Wilder, 68, is seen trying to pass the FedEx truck. The truck appears to try to force the school bus off the road. At one point the school bus is seen driving on the wrong side of the road.
Lakewood police say that typically Winiavski's alleged actions would constitute simple assault since no one was hurt. However a New Jersey law dictates that assaulting a person performing the duties of a school bus driver should be treated more seriously. The law says suspects should be charged with aggravated assault.
Winiavski was charged and released pending a court appearance. Both men received numerous motor vehicle summonses for their respective parts in the incident.
