Farm to table food: One farm and hospital partnership is making sure patients are well fed

Crossroads Farm at Grossmann's in Malverne picks up to 300 pounds of organic produce from the farm and delivers it each week to LIJ Valley Stream Hospital.
There are 75 types of fruits and vegetables grown at the century-old farm, everything from acorn squash to zucchini. The farm is just a mile away from the hospital, making this truly farm to table.
You could say this is not your typical hospital food. Russell Ficke, the executive chef at the hospital, says being able to feed patients fresh organic food will give them a boost of nutrients they need.
