Several families have been displaced by a house fire in Plainfield on Wednesday, News 12 New Jersey was told.
News 12 was told the fire on Brookside Place started around 6 a.m. Thirty residents made it out OK and are now being helped by the Red Cross. One firefighter suffered neck and back injuries and is being evaluated at a hospital, News 12 was told.
Fire officials say they encountered heavy fire on the second floor. A roof also collapsed. Firefighters from nearby towns helped to put out the fire but not before it spread to a nearby home. Plainfield’s deputy chief says wind was a factor in the fire spreading next door.
Multiple fires have popped up within the last 24 hours in New Jersey, including two wildfires.
A relative of one of the people displaced says they believe the fire started with a spark on the electrical transmission line. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
