Extreme heat causes NJ Transit delays, service changes across rail system

NJ Transit rail service is experiencing systemwide delays of up to 60 minutes and cancellations on some trains Friday because of equipment issues related to extreme heat.
The agency said Midtown Direct service is being diverted to Hoboken. Rail tickets and passes are being cross-honored on NJ Transit and private carrier buses, as well as PATH service at Newark Penn Station, Hoboken and 33rd Street in New York.
NJ Transit said North Jersey Coast Line service has resumed between New York Penn Station and Bay Head, but riders should expect delays of up to 90 minutes.

Meanwhile, service on the Morris & Essex Line, Gladstone Branch and Montclair-Boonton Line has resumed in both directions following an earlier disabled train near Newark Broad Street. However, riders on those lines should continue to expect delays of up to 60 minutes.
NJ Transit is advising customers to check its website or mobile app for the latest service updates and alternate travel options.
