Former Assemblyman Neil Cohen was formally hit with child pornography charges Wednesday by Attorney General Anne Milgram.
Cohen is charged with reproducing, possessing and distributing child pornography, as well as an additional official misconduct charge.
He faces up to 10 years if found guilty on all charges. The official misconduct charge carries a mandatory sentence of five years in prison if found guilty.
The materials were allegedly found on Cohen?s work computer by a staffer.
?The child pornography consisted of photographs of underage girls engaged in sexual acts or simulated sexual acts, or underage girls depicted in the nude for the sexual gratification of the viewer,? says Milgram.
The former assemblyman resigned his seat in July after the child pornography allegations came to light. He checked himself into a psychiatric hospital and has not spoken publicly about the situation since.
