An Elmwood Park home along Philip Avenue was left seriously damaged after a fire Sunday afternoon.

Official details were not immediately known as of Sunday night, but the bulk of the damage was to the garage. A car inside was left completely destroyed. There was also damage to the shed and the home’s siding.

A neighbor called 911 after smelling what he said he first thought was a barbecue. Crews from Elmwood Park, Fair Lawn, Garfield and Saddle Brook soon responded.

It was not immediately clear what started the fire.

First responders on the scene told News 12 there were no injuries.

Fire officials across the state warned of the windy conditions coming into Sunday.

Despite the gusty winds, a quick response meant this fire didn’t spread to other homes.

News 12 reached out to borough officials for more information but had not heard back as of Sunday night.
