(AP) - An elderly woman was found dead insideher northern New Jersey home in what authorities said may have beena double-suicide attempt with her husband, who was hospitalized incritical condition.

The couple's son found them around noon Sunday inside theirapartment in a senior citizens complex in Jersey City. Authoritieswould not identify the couple, but said both had been ailing.

Hudson County Prosecutor Edward DeFazio said the couple appearedto have used helium gas and plastic bags and had left a note.However, he would not discuss the note's contents and said hisoffice was trying to confirm who wrote it.

"It could be an attempted suicide, but we are not prepared toclassify the event that way," DeFazio told The Jersey Journal ofJersey City. "For now, it is a suspicious death pending furtherinvestigation."
