A teenager from Edison remains hospitalized in critical but stable condition after he was shocked by high voltage lines while trying to climb over a train trestle.
Metuchen police say that the 17-year-old was climbing a steel railroad trestle near Plainfield Avenue when he came in contact with the power lines. He was shocked and then fell 30 feet to the train tracks below.
The teen was identified by family members as Lance Vargas. According Vargas’ Facebook page, he attended JP Stevens High School in Edison.
Vargas’ grandmother posted on Facebook that he was in St. Barnabas Burn Center in Livingston with broken bones and burns to 70 percent of his body.
“We love him so much. He needs prayers and a miracle,” the grandmother posted.
