1 dead as authorities investigate fatal shooting in Newark

East Hanover Police Sgt. Keith Gunther, 42, faces DWI and vehicular homicide charges after a head-on collision killed 55-year-old Hamid Shabuddin.

The crash occurred Oct. 15 on Route 23 in Riverdale around 11 p.m. Gunther allegedly drove on the wrong side, striking Shabuddin's Toyota Camry.

Gunther's court appearance is set for December.
