Former gymnastics coach charged with sexually assaulting 2 athletes

A former Monmouth County gymnastics coach is facing charges after investigators say he had sexual relationships with two teenage athletes.

Sasha C. Raught, 58, of Manchester Township, was convicted of sexual assault and aggravated sexual assault following a two-week jury trial in Monmouth County. According to the Monmouth County prosecutor's office, investigators discovered that Raught "had entered into sexual relationships with two of his former athletes when they were each teenagers."

According to the prosecutor's office, the first incident took place during the early to mid-1990s when Raught was working as a coach at Shrewsbury Gymnastics. The second incident happened while he was employed at Jonas Gymnastics Academy in Marlboro in 2008.

Following an investigation, Raught was arrested at his home in May 2023 and later indicted in 2024. He is tentatively scheduled to be sentenced on Dec. 11.
