Health officials are issuing a warning about a dangerous trend on the popular app TikTok.
It's called the "Benadryl Challenge" where users make videos of themselves taking too much of the over-the-counter allergy medicine. The FDA says teens are ending up in the hospital.
A doctor News 12 spoke with says Benadryl is great when it comes to relieving allergies, but the amount used in the Benadryl Challenge could lead to heart problems, seizures, coma or death.
"They're taking dosages that are double, sometimes triple the daily recommended dose," says Dr. Chidubem Iloabachie, of Northwell Health.
He says parents should keep medications away from younger children.
The FDA says it has contacted TikTok to ask the company top remove any videos having to do with the Benadryl Challenge.
