An Ocean County oncologist is under investigation after five of his patients contracted hepatitis B.
Last week, letters were sent out to approximately 2,800 of Dr. Parvez Dara's former and current patients. The letters urged them to get tested for blood-borne diseases. One woman, who was a patient since 2006, believes that her hepatitis B infection is a result of unsanitary conditions at Dara's office.
Dara's attorney, Robert Conroy, says his client is not to blame.
"Two of the patients didn't receive any chemo at the doctor's office - they did at the nearby hospital. Three other patients had the disease already," Conroy says.
But the State Attorney General's Office disagrees with Conroy and will look to suspend Dara's license at a hearing Friday.
