Two students in the Summit Public School District have been diagnosed with whooping cough, a ‘highly contagious’ infection disease that could spread to others.
Summit Superintendent June Chang says students who are vaccinated could get a mild case, but those who aren't vaccinated could get sicker.
The infection can be spread through the air by coughing or sneezing.
According to the New Jersey Department of Health, all students entering 6th grade are required to get a booster shot with a whooping cough vaccine.

No additional students had been infected as of Wednesday.
