Eleven residents and a dog were displaced by a second-alarm fire at a multi-family home in Montclair on Sunday morning, according to the Montclair Fire Department. No injuries were reported.

Firefighters were called to 85 Elm St. around 7:15 a.m. after a caller reported the top floor of the three-story home was filling with black smoke. Arriving crews encountered heavy smoke, and the fire was upgraded to a second alarm.

Crews found the fire in the basement and began an interior attack. Firefighters searched the basement and upper floors and found no one inside. Officials said the fire did not spread beyond the area where it started.

All residents had evacuated before firefighters arrived. The American Red Cross responded to assist the 11 displaced people, according to the Montclair Fire Department.
