A 19-year-old Franklin Township man has been identified as the rider killed in a crash on Route 27, with police now saying the vehicle he was riding was an electric motorcycle, not an e-bike as initially reported.

Franklin Township police identified the victim as Karrar F. Alogaili.

A follow-up investigation by the department’s Traffic Safety Bureau determined the two-wheeled vehicle did not meet New Jersey's statutory definition of a low-speed electric bicycle because it was not pedal-assisted.

The crash happened around 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Route 27 and South Middlebush Road.

Police said Alogaili was riding the electric motorcycle south on Route 27 when he collided with a vehicle making a left turn from northbound Route 27 onto South Middlebush Road.

Alogaili suffered serious injuries and was taken to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
