Cuban Pete’s in Montclair has been shut down after the restaurant’s owner continually violated Gov. Phil Murphy’s indoor dining rules.
The owner was charged numerous times with having too many people inside after saying he would continue to do so.
The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office changed the locks Monday.
In the town, residents that spoke with News 12 said things from “good riddance," to saying they would repeatedly see the restaurant packed. Another person says we all should be doing our part, and that no one is exempt.
"They're not above anybody," says Anna Weber, of Montclair. "I mean, they're always packed, the food is good, but they got to comply. This is bigger than us. It's selfish for the whole nation, for New Jersey, for everything, so it's not fair. It's not right. You got to do your part."
The owner is scheduled to appear in court in Mercer County Nov. 19.
