There’s a fall feel in the air. Is this the end of summer temperatures?

There are gusty winds at the coast with deteriorating conditions at the beaches due to Hurricane Erin coming up the coast.

Has that summer wind that came rolling in and kept our air so warm gone away for the season? Morning lows were in the 50s and 60s this morning. Daily highs were in the mid- to upper 70s. (The norm is 85.) Meteorological signs are pointing to a cooler end to the month.
Hurricane Erin is helping to unlock some of that cooler Canadian air as the storm passes well east of our area, but her wind field is large enough to displace that cooler environment.
The conditions at the shore will slowly deteriorate all week long. Rip currents and undertows will get worse as the waves get larger. On Wednesday into Thursday, I would assume some municipalities will wind up closing the beaches to swimming. It is going to get that bad where it is warranted for everyone's safety.
The winds will be consistently breezy from Tuesday through Friday. Especially at the beach, where gusts could reach as high as 50 mph.
Possible showers are likely Wednesday into early Thursday. This will bring another reinforced burst of cooler air.
Coastal flooding during high tide will also be a concern. Tides run higher than average during new and full moons. We will nearly be at a new moon on Wednesday and Thursday, so we should expect minor to moderate flooding during high tide starting Wednesday and lasting through Friday's early high tide cycle.
