Crews repair 3 broken water mains in Bayonne
Crews have completed repairs to three water mains that broke overnight in Bayonne.
The breaks occurred between 11:30 p.m. Monday and 4:30 a.m. Tuesday. The first one broke on West 54th Street between Broadway and Avenue C. The second break happened near West First Street and John F. Kennedy Boulevard and the third break was near Third Street and Avenue A.
The breaks affected about 125 homes.
Residents told News 12 New Jersey that they had little to no water pressure. Potable water was brought in for some residents while repairs were made.
Repairs on the breaks lasted until late in the afternoon. Crews had to work in temperatures of above 90 degrees.
“I don't envy them at all because where they're located, there's no shade at all here,” says resident Elsie Kopcha.
Bayonne Mayor Jimmy Davis said the city’s aging infrastructure is causing the issues with the water mains.
"The water system here is well over 100 years…that’s been an issue for us for years now,” the mayor said.
