The news comes following a massive party with 700 people that took dozens of police from two counties to help break up.
The illegal gathering featured a DJ and $1,000 twerking contest. People who live in the Whispering Hills section said partiers were drinking, smoking weed, and jumping on cars, as well as using their property as bathrooms.
According to tax documents, the owner, Yaakov Weiss, just purchased the home three days before listing it on Airbnb. He, along with the two party organizers from Newark, were cited.
Mayor Michael Reina thanked members for the quick response at the council hearing.
"Council, thank you for acting swiftly on the AirBnb," says Mayor Reina. "I think it's a public safety issue, always has been, always will be. If it's not monitored correctly for whatever the case may be, all of our residents matter. It doesn't matter what neighborhood you're in, we are going to look into whatever is not going well."
Similar "pop up" parties also took place this summer in Brick and Howell.
