Residents in Point Pleasant Beach are on heightened alert Monday after police say a peeping Tom turned violent.
According to authorities, a 17-year-old girl was attacked by an intruder Saturday evening in her home. Police say the man, suspected of several peeping Tom incidents in the area, apparently became more brazen. They say the man entered the home through an unlocked door, came at the victim with a kitchen knife and tried to sexually assault her.
?She fought very valiantly with this gentleman and put up a struggle,? Point Pleasant Beach Police Chief Daniel DePolo says. ?We think he may have injuries as a result of the struggle.?
Authorities say when the man fled, the girl ran to find a neighbor and called the police.
Police are urging all residents to lock their doors at all times, even if they are home. Anyone with information is asked to call the Ocean County Prosecutor?s Office at (732) 929-2027 or the Point Pleasant Beach Police Department at (732) 892-0500.
