A Woodbridge police officer suffered fractures to his neck and back after being struck by a vehicle on Route 35 on Tuesday night, according to Woodbridge PBA Local 38.
The union said the officer, a member of its executive board, was trying to help someone get to safety from the roadway when he was struck.
He also suffered a severe head laceration, as well as scrapes and road rash to his face and arms.
The officer was taken to RWJ University Hospital New Brunswick, where he continues to receive treatment, according to the Woodbridge Police Department.
“Our thoughts are with our brother officer and his family as he continues to receive treatment following Tuesday night’s incident,” the department said in a statement.
