Construction is ongoing for a Garden State Parkway service center named for Whitney Houston.
The center is located near Exit 141 on Vauxhall Road – about 15 minutes away from Houston’s gravesite at Fairview Cemetery.
Houston is a New Jersey native who is known for being one of the best-selling music artists of all time. She was born in Newark and died in 2012. Her nickname was “the Voice,” which is engraved on her gravestone.
Houston’s cousin is musical icon Dionne Warwick.
“God gave her an instrument that none other will ever have,” Warwick said.
One of Houston’s most popular songs is “I Will Always Love You” – words that are also written on her gravestone.
The service center displaying Houston’s name is one of several named for famous New Jersey natives.
