Bound Brook could receive millions of dollars in federal funding needed to complete a long-awaited flood control project.
The new federal budget proposal includes $10 million to complete the project, which was started eight years ago. The project was started a year after flooding from Tropical Storm Floyd submerged the area and caused millions of dollars worth of damages.
Bround Brook residents say the area has been ravaged by flooding issues for generations.
"Until that project is fully completed, there's a lot of residents that still will live in fear," says Bound Brook Mayor Carey Pilato.
Pilato says politics are on the community's side this year. U.S. Rep. Mike Ferguson has said he wants to secure the needed funding before he leaves office. Sen. Frank Lautenberg, who is facing re-election, also wants to see the project finished.
