The United States Coast Guard has freed a tugboat that was stuck on a sandbar off the coast of Lavallette.
The 75-foot boat named Sea Cypress was in the area aiding in a beach replenishment project when rough seas snapped an anchor rope. That rope eventually got tangled in a propeller.
Beaches in the area had been closed as the Coast Guard worked to retrieve the boat.
The boat is now headed to Barnegat. Coast Guard crews say that there were no environmental impacts.
