Medical waste caused several New Jersey beaches to close early Monday, but the beaches have since reopened.
Officials say the medical waste and other trash began washing up on Sunday. They say most of it was found at beaches in Monmouth and Ocean counties.
Officials say they are still trying to determine where the debris came from. They say markings on syringes or numbers on the waste may be able to help them track the source.
The president of the Chadwick Beach Association, Michael Derose, says some trash they found may get them off to a good start.
?I believe it was from Brooklyn, we did save it,? Derose says. ?It did have a marking from a company on it that had to do with a medical company ? so we bagged it.?
While some New Jersey residents chose to head to the beach Monday morning even though the water was prohibited, the water is open again and anyone can swim.
