Some New Jersey families spend Black Friday shopping for Christmas trees rather than rushing to retail stores.
But the unseasonably warm weather made for an interesting scene at the Christmas tree farms. Shoppers were spotted wearing T-shirts at English Tree Farms in Howell.
"We should be looking for a palm tree instead of Christmas Trees," joked Michael Vollaro, of Middletown. "It's 65 degrees."
According to Vollaro, his family avoids malls and other retail stores in favor of spending family time together choosing and decorating their Christmas tree.
Serena DeFelice, of Jackson, told News 12 that she prefers to spend Black Friday outdoors with her family, making Christmas tree shopping a natural fit.
And shoppers have a lot of choose from.
Fran English, the owner of English Tree Farms, noted that white pine trees last the longest, but they're fragile and can't support heavy ornaments.
Douglas fir trees and Norway spruce are sturdier, she said.
Customers should also measure their ceiling height before coming in, she added.
