Charges were dropped Tuesday against two Rider University officials indicted in the drinking death of a freshman.
Rider?s dean of students, the director of Greek Life and three other fraternity members were all charged with aggravated hazing after 18-year-old Gary DeVercelly died at a pledge party in March. While the charges still remain for the three fraternity members, the judge dismissed the charges against Dean Anthony Campbell and Director Ada Badgley.
Mercer County?s prosecutor said there wasn?t enough evidence to prove the officials knew what was going on that night. He said the other three cases are ready for court.
Meanwhile, more details were revealed in court Tuesday about what happened at the party. According to investigators, DeVercelly was supposed to share a liter of vodka with three other people, but ended up drinking most of it himself.
Since the incident, Rider University has tightened some of its alcohol policies, including banning all parties involving alcohol from Greek and other residence houses.
