Skimming of debit and credit cards is a growing problem.
One customer discovered a card skimmer Saturday as he was making a purchase at a Dollar Tree store in Bayonne. Video shows the customer pulled the skimmer right off the card machine as he was making his purchase. He said the buttons were hard to press and it just didn’t feel right. He then gave it a tug and it popped right off.
Bayonne police are investigating the skimming incident at Dollar Tree.
According to a recent Kane In Your Corner report, one study found the number of cards compromised jumped by nearly 80%.
Back in January, a bank in Nutley had a skimmer on an ATM machine. One was also found at a Wawa in South Jersey.
Kane In Your Corner suggests tapping a credit card is generally safer than inserting one. Paying by phone is even safer.
If you think you may have used a machine with a skimmer, contact your local police and your bank immediately.
