A Totowa police officer was injured Monday after a brief car chase and a shooting.
Authorities say Officer John Sole was shot in the shoulder in the area of Totowa Road and Mitchell Avenue.
Police believe the man who shot Sole is a former borough law enforcement officer. According to police, the suspect had struck two pedestrians with his car in a municipal lot before fleeing.
Authorities say police opened fire on the suspect, hitting him in the side, after he shot Sole.
The gunman, the two pedestrians and Sole were taken to Saint Joseph?s Regional Medical Center in Paterson. Sole?s injuries are not considered life-threatening.
