The parent of an autistic child is demanding answers after it took almost two hours for a bus driver to drop her son off at school.
Roberta Higginbottom says she received a call from her son?s school, the Developmental Learning Center in Warren, asking why her child wasn?t in school Monday. She says she received the call an hour and a half after putting her 11-year-old son on the bus.
School Tyme Bus, the company that runs the buses, says it notified parents on Higginbottom?s bus route that the regular driver called out sick and the substitute was running an hour late. The company acknowledges the substitute driver got lost on the way to the school
School Tyme is assuring parents that a similar incident will not happen again. The bus company placed the substitute driver on 30 days unpaid leave. She later resigned.
Higginbottom says she wants to know why no one notified her about the driver. She also wants to know why her son?s route doesn?t have a regular driver. She says until School Tyme hires a regular driver, she will drive her son to and from school.
