A broken elevator in Stratford has left dozens of seniors and people with disabilities trapped on the upper floors of their building.

James Bowman, 80, manages the condo association at Longbrook Condominiums. He says in spite of using a cane, he is still able to walk up the stairs, but most of his neighbors - fellow seniors and people with disables - are not.

That's been a major problem over the past three months.

Bowman says it would cost the association $217,000 to replace the broken elevator, but that because everybody is on a tight budget - they could never afford to make that happen.

Sen. Richard Blumenthal says he's investigating the situation to see if the condo association might be eligible for state, federal or grant dollars to help install a new elevator. Blumenthal says he wants to find out if any pandemic relief dollars might be available for this purpose.

Bowman says he was injured while deployed during the Cuban missile crisis. A man who put his life on the line for his country tells News 12 it would be nice to get a hand solving this relatively simple problem.
