Officials say they have recovered a body from the Raritan River after an extensive search for a woman who went missing early Saturday.
The body, believed to be 22-year-old Anjanae Smith of Newark, was pulled out of the river at around 7:30 a.m. Sunday.
Police were searching for Smith for close to 16 hours. They say Smith was near the river at around 2 a.m. Saturday with some other people.
She allegedly became distraught and went into the river, which is when the others lost sight of her.
The identity of the body has not officially been confirmed by authorities.
Several of Smith's family members were seen being called over to the ambulance and then began sobbing.
